The five purification therapies (’Panchakarma’) are:-

SNEHAVASTI: Medicated oil enema

KASHAYA VASTI: Herbal decoction enema. For the treatment of rheumatism, arthritis, low back pain, flatulence, hemiplegia etc.

VAMANA: Oral administration of herbal emetic medicines to induce vomiting. For the treatment of bronchial asthma, cough, epilepsy, anaemia etc. This therapy eliminates the morbid factors from the upper parts of the body.

VIRECHANA: Oral administration of herbal purgative drugs to eliminate the morbid factors from lower parts of the body. For the treatment of skin diseases, urinary disorders, digestive disorders and arthritis.

NASYAM: Administration of medicated herbal preparations, decoctions, oils and ghee into the nostrils to eliminate the morbid factors from the head and neck.

Indications: Inflammations associated with fall or injury, fractures, dislocations, bruises, joint pains, cuts and burns.

Directions for use: Apply the affected part and massage. For burns and bruises apply gently.
