At Mukthi, we believe that healing should be steady rather than forceful. Matra Vasti is the mildest form of Vasti, in which a small measured dose of warm medicated oil is administered rectally after light food. Every session begins with a physician assessment, so the oil, the dose, and the course length are matched to what your body actually needs. It carries no strict preparation and no dietary restrictions, which is what allows it to be given daily, safely, over a long course.

Matra Vasti is the classical Ayurvedic practice of administering a small, measured quantity of warm medicated oil through the rectum. Matra means dose, and the name reflects what defines it: the smallest of the Vasti measures, roughly a quarter of a full oleation Vasti. Vasti itself is described in the texts as the single most effective treatment for Vata disorders.
The small dose is the point, not a limitation. Because the quantity is modest and the oil is nourishing rather than evacuative, the therapy causes no strain and needs no purgation beforehand. It is given after light food, retained without effort, and can be repeated daily across weeks, which is how it builds strength in depleted tissue rather than simply clearing the bowel.
Eases persistent lumbar pain and the radiating discomfort that travels down the hip and leg.
Lubricates dry, worn joints and reduces the stiffness and pain of long-standing arthritic complaints.
Restores regular, unforced bowel movement and settles bloating, dryness, and colonic sluggishness.
Rebuilds strength in those worn down by illness, overwork, travel, or prolonged physical strain.
Addresses the dryness, tremor, cramping, and restlessness that come with severe or long-standing Vata excess.
Each session follows a fixed sequence. Your physician decides the oil, the dose, and the course length based on your assessment, so no two sessions are identical.
A short physician assessment of your constitution, digestion, and current complaints, followed by selection of the right medicated oil and dose.
Unlike other Vasti procedures, Matra Vasti is given after light food, so you eat a small simple meal before the therapy rather than fasting.
The lower back, abdomen, hips, and thighs are massaged with warm oil and given localised steam to relax the region before administration.
You lie on your left side while the measured, body-warm oil is administered slowly and gently by a trained therapist under physician supervision.
You rest on your back with the legs slightly raised for a short while, and remain at the clinic until the therapist confirms a normal return.
At Mukthi, we believe healthcare is more than just treatment. It is about restoring confidence, comfort, and peace of mind.
No session begins without a physician examining you first. Your constitution, digestion, bowel pattern, and current complaints decide which oil is used and exactly how much is given.
Our medicated oils are prepared at our own facility using classical formulations and raw herbs we source and verify ourselves. We know how long each batch was cooked and what went into it.
Every Vasti is carried out by trained therapists under physician supervision, in a private room, with sterile single-use equipment and a protocol we follow identically every time.

Matra Vasti is the gentlest form of Vasti and safe for most adults, including the elderly and those too weak for stronger procedures. Even so, it is a medical procedure. A physician’s assessment before your first session tells us whether it is right for you now, and which oil and dose to use.
Matra Vasti is best suited for individuals who:

Answers to what patients most often ask before booking their first Matra Vasti session.
No. A standard enema uses water or a laxative solution to clear the bowel. Matra Vasti uses a small measured dose of warm medicated oil chosen by a physician, given after light food, to nourish and pacify Vata. Emptying the bowel is not the aim, and the dose is far smaller.
No, though the names are close. Kati Vasti is external, with warm oil held over the lower back inside a dough ring. Matra Vasti is administered internally. They treat overlapping complaints and are often given together across a course.
Plan for about 45 minutes at the clinic. Administration itself takes only a few minutes, with the rest of the time given to the preparatory massage and steam, and the observation period afterwards.
It is carried out privately, by a trained therapist of the same gender wherever preferred, with sterile single-use equipment. Most patients describe mild pressure and nothing more. The preparatory massage before it is the longer part of the session.
Eat a small, warm, light meal shortly before you arrive. Empty the bladder and bowel before the session. Bring a change of clothes and keep the hour after your session free of travel or strenuous activity.
Matra Vasti is avoided during pregnancy and generally postponed during active menstruation. It is also deferred in cases of piles, fissures, or acute digestive upset. Speak to our physician before booking.
Matra Vasti pairs well with several of our other therapies. Your physician can recommend the right combination for your condition.
